  Denon revamps ultimate amplifier

Denon used the UK CEDIA EXPO to debut the latest version of its mammoth THX Ultra 2 amplifier. The new AVC-A1XVA now offers 1080p scaling for all sources, courtesy of a custom Faroudja chipset, plus five HDMI inputs with HDMI Monitor Out; DVI-HDCP input and DVI-HDCP Monitor Out; an Ethernet port for internet Radio, PC setup and configuration; a 20 channel four-zone audio & video pre-amplifier and a cool new Electro Luminescent remote handset.
The uprated amplifier will sell for 4,800 pounds.
This huge (and hugely versatile) amplifier offers 10×170 watt amplification, MultiEQ room equalization, Denon Link 3, plus the newest version of Denon’s Dynamic Discrete Surround Circuit (DDSC), which features a 192 kHz processing circuit and the latest 32-bit floating point DSPs for both the main and second zones.
It also uses Burr-Brown PCM-1792 24-bit/192kHz audio DACs for all 16 channels. The AVC-A1XVA will be available from the end of June.
Owners of the original AVC-A1XV can take advantage of Denon’s upgrade programme, and have the new circuit board fitted for £850.
AVC-A1XVA features
Possible system configurations
The AVC-A1XVA can offer two discrete 5.1-channel systems in different rooms, or with external amps, two 7.1 channel systems, or a 7.1 channel system in the main zone, a 2.1 channel system in a 2nd room and a mono system in a 3rd room.
Alternatively, there’s the option for an audiophile-oriented bi-amp mode, with two amplifiers used to bi-amplify the front left, front right speakers in a full 7-channel cinema system, delivering maximum power and performance.

Ethernet Functions
The amp can function as an audio media client. It wll stream audio from a networked PC using Windows Media Connect. Supported audio formats are MP3, WAV and WMA. It will also connect to Crestron and AMX network control systems.

Internet Functions
The AVC-A1XVA is network ready. It can offer access to internet radio with no PC. Its users can just connect to broadband and the A1XVA will find radiodenon.com, a Denon customised area of vTuner.com.

Connections
Connectivity is cutting edge: Highlights include HDMI and DVI switching and routing at 1080p with 5 HDMI inputs and 1HDMI Monitor Out; DVI-HDCP input and DVI-HDCP Monitor Out; HDTV Component Video Switching with 5 high-bandwidth (100 MHz) HDTV-compatible component inputs; Upconversion from analogue to digital with scaling to 1080p and FireWire (iLink - IEEE1394).

Auto Set-Up and room correction
The AVC-A1XVA incorporates MultiEQ XT room correction and calibration technology from Audyssey Laboratories, which automatically determines how many loudspeakers are connected, whether they are connected in phase, and whether they are satellites or subwoofers.
It then analyses and calibrates speaker level, size, and distance. In addition, MultEQ XT detects the proper crossover point and determines correct frequency response for up to eight listener positions simultaneously, creating an optimized soundfield, compensated for speaker and room capabilities. Denon’s implementation of MultEQ XT utilizes multiple Aureus high-performance DSP processors from Texas Instruments
